WHY DID ZELLERS Close?

In early 2011, U.S. department shop chain Target acquired the leaseholds for 189 Zellers spots from HBC for $1.825 billion.

Of people 189 spots, 125 have been converted to Goal outlets, leaving HBC with 64 remaining Zellers outlets.

In 2012, HBC declared that preserving the retailer alive was not economically practical. It shut the doorways of its final Canadian Zellers site in 2013.

The Zellers areas transformed into Focus on outlets survived for a several years, but in 2015, the U.S retailer withdrew from Canada.
