Toronto – Good-bye to Bed Bath & Beyond Canada. Hello to Rooms + Spaces.
Following the dissolution of Bed Bath & Beyond’s Canadian operation last February, Canadian entrepreneur Doug Putman has acquired 21 former locations and will launch a new home store chain called Rooms + Spaces.
Before going out of business over the winter, BBB’s Canadian division operated 54 Bed Bath & Beyond locations and 11 buybuy Baby stores.
“The creation of a new home brand was a natural addition to my retail portfolio, which now provides shoppers with everything they need across the baby, toy and home categories,” he said.
Putman’s retail portfolio includes Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us Canada, Sunrise Records, Alex Brands (including Alex Toys in the US), T.Kettle, and hmv in the UK, among others.
The new home store format will offer housewares, home textiles and home décor. It will be led by Greg Dyer, the former general manager of Bed Bath & Beyond Canada. The first 10 locations are slated to open in Ontario this summer.
The stores will be located in former Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby locations in the following cities:
